The Heart of Giving  ·  Three Truths

Truth 01 of 03

Giving Is Freedom

Giving isn't about pressure or obligation, it's about freedom. Jesus talked about money often, not to take from people but to transform them. Because money isn't just a financial issue… it's a heart issue.

Truth 02 of 03

We Don't Give to Get

We give because we've already been given so much. Through Jesus, we've received forgiveness, purpose, new life, and every spiritual blessing. Giving is a response to grace, not a formula for more.

Truth 03 of 03

Generosity Is Who We Are

From the very beginning, the Church was marked by radical generosity. Generosity isn't just something we do, it's who we are as followers of Jesus. When you give, you participate in God's mission and reflect His heart.

Two Expressions of Generosity

Tithes &
Offerings

The Tithe

The Starting
Point

A tithe simply means "tenth", 10% of your income. We believe this is the biblical starting point for generosity that continues throughout Scripture, including the New Testament (Matthew 23:23).

The tithe isn't a tax, it's an act of trust. It's declaring: "God, I believe You are my Provider, not my paycheck."

Matthew 23:23 · Malachi 3:10

The Offering

Spirit-Led
Generosity

Offerings are anything given above and beyond the tithe, Spirit-led moments in response to a need, an opportunity, or a prompting from God.

And we recognize that generosity is a journey. If you're just beginning, the first step may be starting to give consistently, even at a smaller percentage, and growing from there over time.

2 Corinthians 9:6–8 · Luke 21:1–4

"While people may handle the offering, it is ultimately received by Jesus Himself."

Hebrews 7:8

All accounting is handled by Kari Hubb (led by Jeremy Brown), an independent organization that sees every transaction, provides financial guidance, and ensures wise stewardship. Nothing is hidden.

Got Questions?

We've Got
Answers.

Not at all. Giving is an act of worship, not a membership fee. We never want anyone to feel pressure or obligation. Come, belong, grow, and give when and if God moves you to.

A tithe means "tenth", 10% of your income, and we believe it's a biblical starting point for generosity. But we also recognize that generosity is a journey. If 10% feels out of reach right now, start where you can and grow from there. What matters most is that giving comes from the heart, not from a specific number.

Your giving fuels weekly ministry (Sunday services, Overflow Kids, Overflow Youth), community care, small groups, Celebrate Recovery, Meal Train, and more. On top of that, we give 10% of all church income straight back into our community, supporting local nonprofits and individuals in need, both inside and outside our church.

No. We don't give to get, and we don't treat God like a formula for wealth. We do believe Scripture speaks about financial blessing, but the ultimate goal of generosity is never personal gain. We believe in a life of generosity, trusting that as we give, God provides what we need and uses us to bless others (2 Corinthians 9:6–8). Giving is about participation in God's mission, not personal prosperity.

Overflow has five external overseers (none of whom attend or work at our church) who approve our annual budget and any purchase over $20,000. Our accounting is handled independently by Kari Hubb, led by Jeremy Brown, who reviews every transaction and ensures wise stewardship. Nothing is hidden. We're committed to full transparency.

Yes. Recurring giving is available online and makes consistent generosity simple. You can set up weekly, bi-weekly, or monthly gifts in just a few clicks at give.overflow.church. It's a great way to make generosity a regular spiritual discipline.
