DAY ONE

PRAYER FOCUS: VISION

 1 I will take my stand at my watchpost
    and station myself on the tower,
and look out to see what he will say to me,
    and what I will answer concerning my complaint.
The Righteous Shall Live by His Faith
2 And the Lord answered me:
“Write the vision;
    make it plain on tablets,
    so he may run who reads it.
3 For still the vision awaits its appointed time;
    it hastens to the end—it will not lie.
If it seems slow, wait for it;
    it will surely come; it will not delay.
4 “Behold, his soul is puffed up; it is not upright within him,
    but the righteous shall live by his faith.
Habakkuk 2:1-4 ESV

Your word is a lamp to my feet
and a light to my path.
Psalm 119:105 ESV

Where there is no prophetic vision the people cast off restraint,
but blessed is he who keeps the law.
Prov. 29:18 ESV

Ladies & gentlemen of Overflow Church… welcome to DAY 1 of our 21 day fast! I don’t know about ya’ll, but I’m fully expecting God to blow my mind throughout the next 3 weeks. In fact, I filled out my “fasting hit list” already and have it hanging up on my refrigerator so that every time I open it (probably craving something I’m fasting) it reminds me of exactly why I’m fasting. It’s giving me vision for my fast.

And whether it’s vision for your fast, your family, your career, or your future in general, vision is something you can’t afford not to have. I think the author Prov. 29:18 would agree. Without vision, don’t expect to prosper. That’s why God has Habakkuk “write the vision and make it clear.” God knows how important it is to develop a clear vision for your life. And goes on in verses 3 & 4 to encourage the prophet and remind him that his vision (the things he’s believing God to do in the future) may not show up as quickly as he hopes, but not to worry, because the righteous live by faith. Your prayers may not be answered on day 1, day 10, or even day 21 of this fast. Maybe they will. Either way, we trust that God will always “work all things for our good” (Rom. 8:28) in the end.

What’s your vision for this fast? What are you believing God to do in your life? What’s your vision for this year? What’s your vision for your family? Your career? Your relationship with God? Your church? During this fast, ask and allow God to speak to you and give you fresh vision. Do that though prayer, but also do that through reading His Word! If you kind of feel like you’re in the dark concerning God’s vision for your life, Psalm 119:105 says “Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.” Allow God’s Word to teach you, encourage you, and help point you in the right direction.

Prayer: Father, today I pray that you would give me fresh vision for this fast and for my life in general. Speak to me through your Word as I read it daily. Speak to me through your Holy Spirit as I spend time in prayer. Be a lamp to my feet and a light to my path. And even if your vision for my life is bigger than I expected, help me to have the kind of faith it takes to believe you and trust you through the process of that vision becoming a reality. Thank you so much for the good plans you have for my life. In the name of Jesus, amen!

DON’T STOP THERE! As you continue to pray, read, and/or worship on your own for a while more today, make sure you keep a notepad to write anything down you feel like The Lord may be speaking to you about His vision for your life.

Love,
Pastor Alex

Is there a devotional for day two (1-18)?
