Day Sixteen

Prayer Focus: Voice Of God

‭‭Romans‬ ‭8:16‬ ‭TPT‬‬
“For the Holy Spirit makes God’s fatherhood real to us as he whispers into our innermost being, “You are God’s beloved child!””

‭‭John‬ ‭16:13-15‬ ‭NLT‬‬
“When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all truth. He will not speak on his own but will tell you what he has heard. He will tell you about the future. He will bring me glory by telling you whatever he receives from me. All that belongs to the Father is mine; this is why I said, ‘The Spirit will tell you whatever he receives from me.’”

‭‭1 Corinthians‬ ‭2:10‬ ‭NLT‬‬
“But it was to us that God revealed these things by his Spirit. For his Spirit searches out everything and shows us God’s deep secrets.”

What’s great about this part of the fast is that since we're finally not thinking about food all of the time, it gives our minds room to focus more on God and His voice. But many times we make hearing God (Holy Spirit) more difficult than it actually is. We wait on big booming voice to come from the sky, but sometimes God’s voice sounds like our own voice in our minds. Something that's helped me determine His voice is when I feel the peace only God can give when I do hear something. Other times, it’s something I would never think to do or say on my own, and it’s likely something a bit out of my comfort zone. But even when that is the case… DO IT ANYWAYS!

Listening to Holy Spirit is SO IMPORTANT. It's what sets us apart from everyone else (unbelievers).

His voice always aligns with the word of God and it’s never condemning. It’s always encouraging even if He is confronting us about sin issues in our life. It never brings anxiety or stress or sadness, but only peace and joy to our spirit. Sometimes His voice is gentle and soft, but other times it’s loud and clear. But He is always a gentleman and won’t ever force you to do anything.

Something I’ve done to focus on Holy Spirit throughout the day is asking him little questions like, “What should I say to this person to make them feel encouraged?” or even asking His suggestion on what colors to mix when I’m doing hair😂😂 I love including Him in the little things and I think He loves that too. When you do this, it’s inviting Him into your whole life, even in times that don’t feel as significant. God is more real than the person beside you but sometimes it can feel awkward since we can’t see Him. So, I like to listen for His responses as if He was standing right in front of me or on the phone. His voice has become the most important thing in my life. I literally can’t function without it!

PRAYER: Holy Spirit, I want to hear your voice over anything else in my mind. I pray you would overwhelm me with your presence right now and speak to me anything you want to. Even if it’s just one word, I want to know your heart. I am listening. I pray you would open my mind and heart to more of you. Help me to hear you in my day to day life and not just in my prayer time. Thank you that you still speak to us Jesus. I love you so much and I'm so excited to hear you more and more! In Your mighty, beautiful name, Amen!

Don't Stop There! Today, in your own devotional time, instead of praying your prayer list, take 10 minutes to simply listen. He will speak to you. All you have to say is “Holy Spirit, what do you want to speak to me right now? My heart and mind are  both open and ready to hear your voice.” Do this… AND HE WILL BLOW YOUR MIND! I’ve gotten words, phrases and even pictures in my mind that I still think about and encourage myself with to this day!

Love,
Samantha Gallien
