Day Thirteen

Prayer Focus: Intentionality

Ephesians 5:15-17 ESV
Look carefully then how you walk, not as unwise but as wise, making the best use of the time, because the days are evil. Therefore, do not be foolish, but understand what the will of the Lord is.

Romans 12:2 NLT
Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect.

Psalm 39:4-5 ESV
“O Lord, make me know my end and what is the measure of my days; let me know how fleeting I am! Behold, you have made my days a few handbreadths, and my lifetime is as nothing before you. Surely all mankind stands as a mere breath! Selah

Losing focus can be the enemy of my day, my week, or even my season (which is a great Christian word to mean a period of life). I will walk into a room while trying to accomplish 3-5 tasks at one time, and have no memory of what step of the process I’m on. We become so busy sometimes that certain things have to move to the back burner of our lives, even if what we’re moving them for isn’t the best use of our time.

In participating in this fast, we’re exercising our intentionality of putting God first, and it’s okay if you’ve fallen off the wagon during this! Intentionality is about choosing to continue when we’ve fallen. We’ll never know when our time here is over. Don’t be afraid of this thought, but be ready for this reality by being intentional with your days, weeks, and seasons. After this fast is over, and you add back to your life some of the things you’re fasting from or consecrating from, don’t let that subtract from your time with God in prayer. Take heart in remembering we can talk to God any time of the day, any way we can.

Prayer: Lord, keep my focus on you. As I pray, let me remain grateful for what you’ve done, have faith in what you’re doing, and be obedient for what you will do. Help me to keep healthy habits, keep you in constant communication, and find joy in all that I do for you.

Don’t Stop There! Plan for your success! When I eat the worst is when I’m not prepared to be hungry. This doesn’t just apply to food. When things in my life go really awry, it’s typically because I didn’t plan them accordingly. Take a moment, rest, and mentally prepare yourself for what comes next. Whether it’s a meeting you have, your meals/snacks for the next day, or anything else in your life: pray and prepare. (Proverbs 21:5 ESV - The plans of the diligent lead surely to abundance, but everyone who is hasty comes only to poverty.)

Love,
Jesse Turner
